I always wondered how the Underoath guys notice the fans change during their tours. I am very interested to know because I follow progressive music and play myself. I think to myself, 'I wonder if Underoath saw a change in the fanbase after the last release. Progressive music can be devastating to fans who just like the same stuff. A band will go a different path than before. I like that. My music is always evolving too. I saw Underoath at the Epicentre in San Diego recently (2011). I had seen them before duuring the "Only Chasing Safety" days. I can tell you that as a musician its important to bring your real true emotions on stage. I love that each person has a unique personality and bring it on stage. When they played in San Diego, it was with a couple HxC bands (comeback kid, chariot, this is hell). Alot of it has to do with the age groups. The current scene here is freakin drop C palm muters and 00 gauge plugs LMAO!. I saw a local band play, eacj member looked identical; chubby, 00gauge plus, black clothing, and they would all hop up and down during their palm muting at the same time. SAD. Im 31 and I've been into hardcore since the mid 80s. The one thing about the bands I was into back then is that I always got excited when a new song emerged. If the song was different than their usual ones, i would listen to the song 3 times in a row to understand the change in emotion and expression. When I play guitar, I pour my emotions in and every time i hit the strings, it is for a reason. Underoath, I believe is the band that defines this type of progression. Even though many fans do not agree, Underoath is as innovative as their first albums. In perspective, every album they put out is different. Life isn't always the same. If it was, that would be boring. For many, music IS a big part of their life and music will continue to evolve. I wonder what we will see on 20 yrs? Back to writing songs...
Underoath is very much proof of a band that progresses and tries out the new so that they can understand themselves more and evolve into what they're truly capable of producing in the music scene. Haha, there will always be stereo-types and people saying and talking crap about Underoath, but they stay strong and write what they want, that's what makes them AMAZING!!! :D Been a fan since December 2004, and they have been my favorite since I saw them play at Warped Tour 2005, they had the best on stage performance in sound and in their energy!!! Still do! :)
